Bhubaneswar: In a concerning incident raising questions over security in high-profile government areas, gold ornaments and cash were reportedly stolen from the residence of senior IAS officer Bishnupada Sethi in the Forest Park area of Bhubaneswar.
According to preliminary information, unidentified miscreants allegedly entered the premises by scaling the boundary wall of the official residence. The theft came to light after valuables, including gold ornaments and cash, were found missing.
Police Launch Investigation, CCTV Footage Under Scan
Following the incident, Bishnupada Sethi lodged a formal complaint at the Capital Police Station. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
Officials are currently examining possible entry and exit points and are expected to review CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify the culprits. Early reports suggest the theft may have occurred during a period when the residence was not adequately guarded, though details are yet to be officially confirmed.
The incident has sparked concerns about security arrangements in government residential zones, prompting authorities to consider enhanced surveillance and increased patrolling in the area.
Rising Concerns After Similar Incident in Odisha
This is not an isolated case. Earlier, a major theft was reported in Berhampur on March 25, where miscreants allegedly stole gold and cash worth over ₹1 crore from a businessman’s residence.
Speaking on that incident, Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M had stated that dedicated patrolling teams were deployed and additional resources were allocated to strengthen security.
