The Baba Farid society has announced names of winners of the 22nd Baba Farid Award. Society’s President Inderjit Singh Khalsa told that this year Baba Farid award for honesty has been given to the former DC of Faridkot district and currently the Director Higher Education Department Punjab, IAS Kumar Saurabh Raj. While rickshaw-puller Rajbir Singh of Chheharta town in Amritsar has been selected for Bhagat Puran Singh Award for Service to Humanity.
Both of them will be honored by giving Doshala and Siropa along with a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh each during the religious congregation to be held at Gurdwara Goddi Sahib on the last day of ‘Baba Farid Aagman Parv’ on 23rd September.
Rajbir Singh (45), rickshaw-puller, is known for penning a book ‘Rickshaw Tey Chale Zindagi’ (Life on a rickshaw), the book is a compilation of 14 short stories on his 20 years of experience as a rickshaw puller, meeting persons of different categories.
Instituted in 2000, The society, since then, have been bestowed 32 persons with Baba Farid award for honesty and 28 persons have been given Bhagat Puran Singh award for service to humanity.
