New Delhi: In a significant move, Madhup Vyas, a seasoned IAS officer of the AGMUT 2000 batch, has been appointed as the Deputy Election Commissioner (DEC) at the Election Commission of India (ECI). This prestigious position is on a Central Deputation basis for a tenure of five years, with Vyas set to work at Level 14 of the Pay Matrix.
Vyas brings with him over two decades of distinguished service in public administration and governance. He has earned a reputation for his expertise in electoral management and governance, particularly through his recent role as Principal Secretary and Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Mizoram. During his tenure, he oversaw the state’s electoral processes, ensuring transparency, efficiency, and fairness.
Before his appointment as DEC, Vyas held a variety of significant administrative roles across multiple sectors, showcasing his versatile leadership. His experience spans the realms of commerce and industry, social welfare, environment and forests, urban development, health, and rural governance. Notably, he has served as Commissioner & Secretary in the Delhi Government, Secretary of Health & Family Welfare, and Commissioner of Urban Development, along with acting as Administrator of Dadra & Nagar Haveli, where he was instrumental in policy implementation and administrative reforms.
Vyas’ career at both the state and central levels has been marked by his strategic leadership and effective governance. His contributions in the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Information & Broadcasting, and Urban Development further underline his ability to handle complex challenges at the national level. Moreover, as a Deputy Commissioner and District Collector in Delhi, Goa, and Lakshadweep, he was crucial in land revenue management and district administration, ensuring effective governance at the grassroots level.
