Noida, UP: In an inspiring display of dedication, Noida District Magistrate Medha Roopam, an IAS officer of 2014 batch, was seen braving torrential rain to personally oversee relief efforts in the flood-affected areas of Gautam Buddha Nagar. A video of the IAS officer walking through rain-drenched camps, interacting with displaced families, especially children has gone viral, earning widespread praise on social media.
On Ground Despite Rains: A DM with a Mission
With the Yamuna River crossing danger levels and flooding parts of Noida, the administration has been on high alert. IAS Medha Roopam, who took charge as DM of Noida in late July, wasted no time in hitting the ground. Ignoring the downpour, she visited relief camps in Sector-135 and Sector-150, inspecting arrangements and listening closely to the grievances of affected residents.
Despite the weather, she ensured that relief work didn’t stop a gesture that’s struck a chord with citizens and netizens alike.
Heartfelt Interaction with Children in Relief Camps
One of the most touching aspects of her visit was her personal interaction with children living in temporary shelters. She not only spoke to them but also distributed books and essential learning materials to ensure that their education isn’t disrupted due to the floods.
“Schools must continue without interruption even in flood-affected zones,” Roopam instructed officers on duty. She emphasized that children should not miss out on their learning, and instructed staff to ensure schooling continues within the camps or through alternate arrangements.

Focus on Relief Infrastructure: From Clean Water to Sanitation
During her field inspection, Roopam thoroughly assessed the food, water, sanitation, medical care, and cleanliness of the temporary shelters. She reviewed the availability of essential supplies and personally ensured that no gaps remained in service delivery.
She was seen engaging with women and children, asking detailed questions about their daily needs, and encouraging her team to maintain dignity and quality in the services being provided.
From Kasganj to Noida: An Officer with a Sporting Spirit
Before her posting in Noida, Medha Roopam served as DM of Kasganj, where she had already built a reputation for efficient administration. She is also known to be a skilled shooting sportsperson, having made her mark beyond the bureaucratic arena.
Social Media Reaction: “Real-Life Hero”
As the video of her field visit in the rain went viral, social media users praised her hands-on approach and humanity in crisis. Comments ranged from “This is true leadership” to “IAS Medha Roopam is a real-life hero.”
