The Uttarakhand government has promoted IAS officer R. Meenakshi Sundaram to the rank of Principal Secretary. His promotion had been under discussion for some time, and with this latest order, the state government has put all speculation to rest by officially confirming his elevation.
R. Meenakshi Sundaram is a 2001-batch IAS officer. Generally, officers require 25 years of service to be promoted to the rank of Principal Secretary. He is set to complete this tenure in January 2026. However, the Uttarakhand government has granted him a few months of relaxation in the required service period, allowing his promotion to take effect earlier.
Granting service relaxation for promotions has been a precedent in the administration. With Meenakshi Sundaram’s promotion, the state now has three officers at the Principal Secretary level. The most senior among them is R.K. Sudhanshu, followed by L. Fanai. Now, Meenakshi Sundaram has also joined this rank.
Currently, he is serving as Secretary in the Housing and Energy departments in the Uttarakhand government.
