In a significant development in the central bureaucracy, the Government of India on Friday (April 9, 2026) issued key appointment notifications, including the posting of Gujarat cadre IAS officer Shweta Teotia as Director in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) and the empanelment of Rajasthan cadre IAS officer Prakash Rajpurohit for Joint Secretary-level positions at the Centre.

Shweta Teotia Appointed Director in MoEFCC

Shweta Teotia (IAS: 2011: Gujarat) has been appointed as Director in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on a lateral shift basis. Her tenure will extend up to February 17, 2030.

Prior to this, she was serving as Deputy Director (Director level) at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie, where she was appointed in January 2025 for a five-year term.

Distinguished Career in Gujarat Cadre

Over the years, Teotia has built a strong administrative profile through diverse roles in the Gujarat cadre. Her key assignments include:

  • Director (Administration) at Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd. (GUVNL)
  • District Collector and Magistrate of Narmada-Rajpipla
  • District Development Officer (DDO) in Arvalli-Modasa
  • Commissioner (Planning) & Project Director
  • Managing Director and Additional Commissioner roles

She has also served as Joint Collector, Sub Collector, and Assistant Collector, gaining extensive field and policy experience.

Teotia’s work has been widely recognized. She has received accolades such as the Best District Collector award and the BHOOMI SAMMAN Award, reflecting her contributions to governance and public service delivery.

Educational Background and Personal Details

Born on April 1, 1984, Teotia hails from Delhi. She has an academic background that includes a B.A. (Hons) in English Literature from the University of Mumbai and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from IGNOU, New Delhi. She is scheduled to retire on March 31, 2044.

Prakash Rajpurohit Empanelled for Joint Secretary Role

Prakash Rajpurohit (IAS: 2010: Rajasthan) has been empanelled for holding the post of Joint Secretary or equivalent at the Centre—an important milestone in an IAS officer’s career.

Currently, he serves as Director in the Department of Economic Affairs under the Ministry of Finance, New Delhi, a position he assumed in March 2025 under the central staffing scheme.

A Top Ranker with Strong Academic Credentials

Rajpurohit is widely known for his academic excellence. He secured All India Rank 2 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2009.

His educational achievements include:

  • AIR 4 in IIT-JEE 2003
  • B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi

Before joining the civil services, he worked at an IT startup in Noida.

Extensive Administrative Experience

Throughout his career in the Rajasthan cadre, Rajpurohit has held several high-profile positions:

  • District Collector & Magistrate in multiple districts including Jaipur, Jodhpur, Ajmer, Alwar, Hanumangarh, and Banswara
  • Mission Director, Jal Jeevan Mission, Rajasthan
  • Commissioner, Excise Department
  • Commissioner, Commercial Taxes

He has also been recognized with awards such as Best District Election Officer and the State Merit Award in Education.

Career Journey and Motivation

Rajpurohit left his private sector job in 2008 to pursue civil services. After reaching the interview stage in his first attempt, he secured AIR 2 in his second attempt in 2009, opting for Electrical Engineering as his optional subject.
