IAS Sanjay Kumar Given Additional Charge of Key Administrative Departments During Rachna Shah’s Leave

New Delhi: The Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) has issued official notifications regarding temporary appointments and additional charges on Sunday.

IAS Officer Sanjay Kumar Assigned Additional Responsibility

Sanjay Kumar (IAS: 1990: BH), currently serving as Secretary of the Department of School Education & Literacy, has been entrusted with the additional charge of the following posts:

  • Secretary, Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT)
  • Secretary, Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG)
  • Secretary, Department of Pensions & Pensioners Welfare (DPPW)

The additional responsibilities will be effective from 12 January 2026 to 18 January 2026, during the period of leave of Rachna Shah (IAS: 1991: KL).

Significance of the Appointment

Sanjay Kumar’s temporary charge covers three crucial central administrative departments:

  • DoPT – Responsible for personnel management, policy formulation, and training of central government employees.
  • DARPG – Focuses on administrative reforms, public grievance redressal, and improving governance mechanisms.
  • DPPW – Handles matters related to pensions, retiree welfare, and related policies affecting central government employees.

The move ensures continuity in administrative functioning during Rachna Shah’s absence and highlights the government’s reliance on senior IAS officers to maintain seamless governance.
