New Delhi: The Government of India has appointed Abhishek Singh, a 2003 batch senior Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, as the next High Commissioner of India to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Africa’s largest economy and one of India’s key strategic partners on the continent.
A formal announcement was made by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday, confirming Singh’s appointment. He is currently serving as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs and is expected to take up his new assignment shortly.

The official press release by MEA stated, “Shri Abhishek Singh (IFS:2003), presently Joint Secretary in the Ministry, has been appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He is expected to take up the assignment shortly.”

A 2003-batch IFS officer, Abhishek Singh has held several key diplomatic positions in conflict-sensitive and strategically important regions. His past assignments include-
- Ambassador to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela (2020–2023)

- Counsellor at India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, where he handled peacekeeping, counter-terrorism, and political affairs
