On Wednesday, senior diplomat Santosh Jha was named India’s High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, following Gopal Baglay (IFS:1992), who was named High Commissioner to Australia. Santosh Jha currently serves as India’s Ambassador to Belgium.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed this appointment on Wednesday through a statement, stating, “Santosh Jha (IFS: 1993), presently Ambassador of India to Belgium, has been appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka. He is expected to take up the assignment shortly”.
Jha was the Ambassador of India to Uzbekistan and the Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy in Washington before being appointed as India’s Ambassador to Belgium. In addition to posts in the Ministry of External Affairs, his diplomatic career has included postings in Moscow, Vladivostok, New York, and Colombo.
Ambassador Santosh Jha assumed his current role as Ambassador of India to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the European Union on July 17, 2020.
