New Delhi: Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) and CEID have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish more than 25 Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants with a combined production capacity of over 125 tonnes per day (TPD) through a joint venture. The collaboration aims to expand India’s renewable gas infrastructure and promote sustainable waste management.
The MoU was signed at IGL’s Head Office in New Delhi. The partnership is aligned with the Government of India’s GOBARDhan initiative, which focuses on converting organic waste into valuable resources, including clean fuel.
IGL and CEID MoU Signing: Key Officials Present
The agreement was signed by the following officials:
- Ajai Tyagi, Executive Director (Business Development & Corporate Strategy), IGL.
- Prince Gandhi, Executive Director, CEID.
The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials and board members from both organisations, including:
- Subhankar Sen, Chairman, IGL and Director (Marketing), BPCL.

More Than 25 CBG Plants Planned with 125 TPD Capacity
Under the proposed joint venture, IGL and CEID will work towards establishing more than 25 Compressed Biogas plants with a cumulative production capacity exceeding 125 TPD.
The projects are expected to support the conversion of organic waste into clean green fuel, contributing to India’s efforts to diversify its energy sources and strengthen its domestic renewable gas ecosystem.
Compressed Biogas is produced by processing biodegradable waste and organic materials. It can be used as a cleaner alternative to conventional fuels and supports better utilisation of organic waste.
Partnership to Support GOBARDhan Initiative and Circular Economy
The collaboration is aligned with the Government of India’s GOBARDhan initiative and aims to promote sustainable waste management and renewable energy production.
The key objectives of the partnership include:
- Organic Waste to Green Fuel: Converting organic waste into Compressed Biogas for use as a clean energy source.
- Circular Economy: Promoting the productive use of waste materials and sustainable resource management.
- Rural Economic Opportunities: Supporting income-generating opportunities through waste-based projects and related activities.
- Reduced Fossil Fuel Dependence: Contributing to efforts to reduce reliance on conventional fossil fuels.
- Renewable Gas Ecosystem: Strengthening India’s domestic capacity for renewable gas production.
IGL’s Push Towards Clean Energy Expansion
The MoU marks another step in IGL’s efforts to expand its presence in the clean energy sector. By partnering with CEID to develop CBG infrastructure, the company aims to support waste-to-energy solutions and contribute to India’s broader renewable energy and sustainability goals.
The proposed projects also align with the country’s vision of a circular economy and a more self-reliant energy ecosystem.
