Ropar, Punjab: The Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (IIT Ropar) has been recognized by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, as a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Advanced Research, Artificial Intelligence (AI) Innovation, and Student Entrepreneurship.

The recognition positions IIT Ropar among India’s leading next-generation institutions driving the country’s technology-enabled growth and innovation ecosystem. It reinforces the institute’s standing as a place “where ideas meet impact and innovation drives inclusion.”

Faculty Excellence at the Forefront of Discovery

IIT Ropar’s research momentum continues to gain national and global recognition, powered by a faculty known for cutting-edge innovation and cross-disciplinary work.

Recent achievements include:

  • Dr. Shweta Jain, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering — Google Research Award 2024 with a USD 20,000 unrestricted grant.
  • Dr. Anupam Bandyopadhyay, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry — IPS Young Scientist Award 2025.
  • Dr. Soumyajit Das, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry — Thieme Chemistry Journals Award 2025.
  • Dr. Durba Pal, Associate Professor, Department of Biomedical Engineering — recognized under “Women in Immunology” by the Indian Immunological Society on the International Day for Women and Girls in Science.

Under the Technology and Innovation Foundation – iHub AWaDH (Agriculture and Water Technology Development Hub), IIT Ropar has emerged as a leader in Agri-Tech, AI, and sustainable innovation.

The institute has now been designated as the Centre of Excellence in AI for Agriculture (Annam AI) under the Ministry of Education’s ₹300-crore national initiative. The project integrates artificial intelligence and data analytics to improve agricultural productivity, optimize resource utilization, and enhance resilience — thereby empowering farmers and strengthening rural innovation ecosystems.

IIT Ropar’s Technology Business Incubator Foundation (TBIF) is rapidly becoming a launchpad for student-led startups. The institute recently hosted its first E-Summit, celebrating innovation and entrepreneurship among young minds.

A standout success from the summit was a TBIF-incubated startup founded by B.Tech students Deepanshu Sharma and Kartik Yadav, who developed an AI-based recruitment platform that secured ₹3.5 crore in funding.
