New Delhi: India Canada partnership took a significant leap forward as both countries agreed to strengthen economic, technological, educational and energy cooperation during the official visit of the Prime Minister of Canada to India.
The visit culminated in the signing of multiple memorandum of understanding (MoUs), commercial contracts and joint announcements aimed at enhancing bilateral ties across sectors including trade, critical minerals, renewable energy, culture, defence and people-to-people exchanges.

The most notable outcome of the visit was the finalisation of the Terms of Reference (ToR) for the India-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

- Commercial contract with Cameco, Canada for long-term supply of uranium ore concentrates, boosting India’s civil nuclear energy programme under the Viksit Bharat initiative.
- MoU between AICTE and Mitacs, Canada for Globalink research internships, enabling up to 300 fully-funded placements for Indian students over three years.
- MoU on Critical Minerals Cooperation to build secure, resilient mineral supply chains, exchange technical expertise, and support investment in mining and processing.
- MoU on Renewable Energy Cooperation to share best practices and build capacity in solar, wind, biomass and energy storage technologies.
- MoU on Cultural Cooperation to strengthen people-to-people ties through shared cultural projects and exchanges.

- Canada will join the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the Global Biofuels Alliance, supporting climate and clean energy goals.

- The India-Canada Parliament Friendship Group was established to strengthen legislative ties.
- The India-Canada CEO Forum was reconstituted to drive private sector engagement and practical cooperation.
- A new India-Canada Defence Dialogue was announced to institutionalise military and security cooperation.
- Joint Talent and Innovation Strategy launched by Universities Canada to expand academic collaboration.

This official visit — Prime Minister Mark Carney’s first to India since taking office and the first Canadian PM visit in several years — marks a reset and reinvigoration of India-Canada ties.
