New Delhi / Durban: Union Minister of Power, Manohar Lal, will participate in the G20 Energy Transitions Ministerial Meeting (ETMM) being held from October 7 to 10 in KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa. The meeting is being hosted under the South African G20 Presidency and will bring together energy leaders from the world’s major economies to deliberate on global energy priorities and transitions.
The ETMM, organized alongside the Energy Transitions Working Group (ETWG) at The Capital Hotel, Zimbali, Durban, aims to address critical global issues such as energy security, clean cooking, universal access to affordable and reliable energy, and sustainable industrial development.
India’s Renewable Energy Milestone to Be Showcased
During the meeting, Minister Manohar Lal will highlight India’s significant progress in renewable energy, notably the achievement of generating 50% of its total installed power capacity from renewable sources — a target reached ahead of international expectations.
He is also expected to share India’s policy innovations and best practices that have enabled widespread energy access, affordability, and security, especially in rural and underserved regions.
Focus on Inclusive and Just Energy Transitions
Minister Manohar Lal will underscore that energy transition and climate change remain among the most urgent global challenges, particularly for developing nations that face resource and capacity constraints. He will advocate for a just, inclusive, and affordable global energy transition, aligning with India’s G20 vision of “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”
India’s Global Role in Sustainable Energy
India has emerged as a leader in clean energy, and its participation in the G20 ETMM further reinforces its commitment to collaborative international efforts for building secure, equitable, and sustainable energy systems. The conference will provide an opportunity for G20 nations to coordinate actions, exchange knowledge, and identify partnerships to accelerate the global clean energy shift.
The G20 Energy Transitions Ministerial Meeting is a key platform for shaping the future of global energy cooperation, with a focus on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ensuring energy equity for all.
