Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo extended heartfelt congratulations to the Indian blind women’s cricket team for their historic victory in the inaugural edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup for the Blind. The final, held in Colombo, saw India, led by captain Deepika TC, triumph over Nepal by seven wickets to lift the title.
The Chief Minister praised the team’s extraordinary achievement, saying, “I congratulate the Indian team who has made the entire nation proud.” He lauded their dedication, hard work, and commitment, which culminated in this momentous victory for the country.
Dominant Performance in the Final
In the final, India opted to field first. The team’s disciplined bowling attack restricted Nepal to 114/5 in 20 overs, showcasing tight lines, strategic field placements, and clinical execution. During India’s innings, the batters chased down the target efficiently, reaching 100 runs within the first 10 overs, demonstrating their aggressive and confident approach.
Opener Phula Saren starred with a match-winning 44 off 27 balls, including four boundaries, earning the Player of the Match award. Her performance set the tone for a comprehensive victory in the 13th over. Karuna K also contributed significantly with a swift 42 off 27 balls, ensuring India’s comfortable chase and commanding finish.
Following the win, captain Deepika TC expressed pride in the team’s collective effort: “We are very proud and it is a huge win. Our entire team worked very hard. It is a very strong team, and other teams are afraid of playing with us. We are even ready to play with the men’s team.”
Unbeaten Journey to the Trophy
India’s campaign in the T20 World Cup for the Blind was marked by consistent excellence. The team began with a resounding win against Sri Lanka and followed it with a 57-run victory over Australia, successfully defending a massive total of 293 runs. India then chased down 136 runs against Pakistan in just 10.2 overs, demonstrating their dominance.
In the semifinals, India once again faced Australia and triumphed by nine wickets. The team capped off their campaign with a strong win over Nepal in the final, finishing the tournament unbeaten and claiming the inaugural trophy.
