Bhopal/Indore: In a swift and decisive response, the Indore Police arrested a man accused of stalking and molesting two Australian women cricketers within hours of the incident. The Australian players, currently participating in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, were allegedly harassed by a motorcycle-borne man while heading to a café from their hotel on Thursday morning.
According to police officials, the accused, identified as Aqeel Khan, followed the cricketers on Khajrana Road and allegedly molested one of them. The incident occurred two days before Australia’s key World Cup clash against South Africa.
Complaint Filed by Team’s Security Officer
The matter came to light when the security officer of the Australian women’s cricket team lodged a complaint with the local police. The officer reported that two players had been stalked, and one had faced indecent behavior from the accused.
Following the complaint, a special team was constituted, and CCTV footage from the area was reviewed to trace the perpetrator. Within six hours, police successfully identified and arrested the accused.
Police Act Swiftly, Accused Arrested Within Hours
Additional DCP (Crime Branch) Rajesh Dandotiya confirmed that the accused was apprehended following a coordinated operation. “After the complaint was received, a case was registered immediately. CCTV footage helped us track the accused’s movement, and he was arrested within six hours,” Dandotiya said.
He further emphasized that Indore Police acted on priority, given the sensitivity of the case and its potential impact on India’s international image.
Government Reaffirms Commitment to Women’s Safety
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has taken a strong stance on the issue, reiterating his government’s zero-tolerance policy toward crimes against women.
“The dignity and safety of women in Madhya Pradesh are non-negotiable. Any violation will be met with the strictest action,” he said.
Cabinet Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya also condemned the incident, calling it “a shameful act for Indore and the nation.” He directed officials to ensure that strict punishment is imposed to set a deterrent example.
