The Inter-Caste Marriage Promotion Scheme is a government initiative aimed at encouraging inter-caste marriages between Scheduled Caste individuals and other Hindus by providing financial assistance. Under this centrally sponsored scheme, eligible couples receive ₹2.5 lakh as an incentive. The scheme is jointly funded by both the central and state governments, each contributing 50 per cent.
Recently, two newlywed inter-caste couples from the district received the incentive amount through Collector Pratishtha Mamgain, who handed over cheques and extended her best wishes for their bright future.
The couples—Hariram Netam and Sangeeta Netam from Brehbeda, and Nagesh Besra and Shobhana Besra from Sulenga—were sanctioned the full amount of ₹2.5 lakh by the government for their inter-caste marriages. Previously, each couple had received ₹1 lakh; now, the remaining ₹1.5 lakh was disbursed through cheques presented by the Collector.
While congratulating them on beginning a new chapter of life, Collector Mamgain wished them a happy and successful future. On this occasion, Assistant Commissioner of the Tribal Development Department, Rajendra Singh, along with officials from the Department of Tribal Welfare, was also present.
