New Delhi: 2007 batch senior IPS officer of 2007 batch from Chhattisgarh, Mr Jitendra Singh (JS) Meena has been appointed as Inspector General (IG) in the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D). Mr Meena is currently serving as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Appointment Approved by Ministry of Home Affairs
According to an official order issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday, June 16, 2025, the competent authority has cleared Meena’s appointment to the post of IG in the BPR&D. He will hold the position from the date of assumption of charge until the end of his central deputation tenure – which runs up to January 14, 2029, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Central Deputation Background
Mr Meena was initially appointed to central deputation for a period of five years by an order dated December 13, 2023, and he formally assumed charge in the CBI on January 15, 2024. His transition from CBI to BPR&D reflects a continuation of his central deputation responsibilities.
Following Empanelment for IG-Level Posts
Mr Meena’s latest assignment comes shortly after his empanelment on May 11, 2025, when he was among 65 IPS officers cleared to hold Inspector General or equivalent-level positions in the Government of India. His selection as IG in BPR&D is a direct consequence of this empanelment, indicating the government’s recognition of his leadership and professional capabilities.
A Strategic Move in Police Reform and Research
The Bureau of Police Research and Development, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, plays a crucial role in police modernization, research, training, and policy development. Mr Meena’s appointment is expected to add valuable operational and investigative expertise to the Bureau, especially considering his background in the CBI – India’s premier investigative agency.
