In a big move, the Chhattisgarh government on Thursday announces the new DGP of the state. 1989-batch IPS officer Ashok Juneja has been appointed as acting Director General of Police (DGP). He will take place of the incumbent D M Awasthi, as the order stated.
A 1986-batch IPS officer Awasthi was serving as the DGP since December 19, 2018. Now, he has been appointed as Director General of the State Police Academy in Raipur. Juneja is currently holding the post of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) of anti-Naxal operations/state intelligence branch (SIB) and the additional charge of Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) and Special Task Force (STF).
This reshuffle took place two days after Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel chaired a review meeting and expressed displeasure over progress of various works in the home department.
On the other side, many rumors are rife and discussions have intensified. Some reports says that in police department, there were some officers senior than Juneja. Now they have been shunted out and the junior has been assigned an important post. In the police headquarters, there were discussions that senior officer special DG RK Vij will be next DGP. And Vij’s active way of working also confirmed this. But now his junior has been given this responsibility.
RK Vij did not congratulate or wish the new DGP Ashok Juneja through social media or any way. Presently, he is in England. On Friday, he posted a picture of himself on Twitter and wrote in his caption – You will face many defeats in life, but never let yourself be defeated. In fact, according to the police cadre in PHQ, the most senior officer is currently DM Awasthi, followed by IPS Swagat Das, Sanjay Pillay, RK Vij and Ravi Sinha. After this, Juneja’s number comes in the 5th order.
