1989 batch IPS officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre, Mr Sanjay Kundu has been given big relief by the Supreme Court. Hearing his petition, the court stayed Himachal Pradesh High Court’s order shifting him from DGP post.
Himachal SC has ordered the state government to shift director general of police (DGP) Sanjay Kundu in the wake of a complaint by a Palampur businessman, noting that the officer was not heard before the adverse directive was issued against him.
After HC order, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu led state government appointed Satwant Atwal Trivedi, a 1996-batch IPS officer, as the officiating DGP. She is currently the additional director general of police, CID and ADGP state vigilance and anti corruption bureau.
A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud provided relief to Mr Kundu regarding the order issued on December 26. Justice JB Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Mishra were also included in the bench.
The court said that until the High Court decides on the petition for withdrawal of the order, the order to transfer Kundu from the post of Himachal DGP will remain in abeyance. The Supreme Court appealed to the Himachal High Court to give its decision on the petition related to withdrawal of the order within two weeks.
