Power corridors are buzzing with the prospect of a major reshuffle involving seven ranges and the transfers of more than 50 IPS officers, including the majority of district SPs. Despite the rumours of change, six IPS officials from the 2020-21 batch have had their careers stalled.
According to reliable sources, the major rearrangement could take place around Eid on June 29. “This reshuffle will include two of the four police commissioners, most district SPs, and a few deputy commissioners of police posted in Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, and Vadodara,” a source revealed.
For more than six months, the six Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) level officers have been assigned to jobs at the police headquarters. Notably, several were deployed during the Rath Yatra bandobast.
According to high-level police sources, after completing their training at the famed Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), these officers were sent to SPs as ASPs across several districts in Gujarat for on-the-job training. “Despite having completed their attachment period, these officers are still awaiting assignments as independent ASPs. These positions are critical to their career development because they provide hands-on experience in real-world policing and crisis management,” a senior police officer said.
It is worth noting that this is not the first time that such delays have occurred. Previously, roughly eight SP rank IPS officials were stuck in limbo for almost a year while waiting for promotions, according to sources.
