1990 batch IPS officer Ravi Gupta has been made the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana. He was serving as the Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) at the time of his appointment.
Mr. Gupta has been given the full Additional Charge of the post.
He will replace current DGP Anjani Kumar, an IPS officer of the same batch, who was suspended by the Election Commission after violating the Model Code of Conduct.
The Election Commission of India announced and issued the order of appointing Mr. Ravi Gupta as the new DGP, hours after the suspension of current DGP Anjani Kumar.
A government order issued by Telangana Chief Secretary A Santhi Kumari states, “Ravi Gupta is placed in a full additional charge to the post of DGP, Head of Police Force (HoPF) of Telangana, with immediate effect, until further orders.”
Mr. Gupta took charge as the Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in December 2022 and also held the additional charge of Director General (Vigilance and Enforcement).
He is an expert in information technology and served as IG, Additional DGP of Police Communication and Technology, Range DIG and IG Warangal.
He has held many other important posts in the state. He served as principal secretary Home Department last year.
He was felicitated with an award for CCTNS and Mee Seva by the Minister for Panchayati Raj and IT.
Mr. Gupta was also one of the contenders for the state’s top cop, the DGP post, in December last year, when Mr. Anjani Kumar was appointed as the DGP, succeeding M Mahender Reddy.
