New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has approved the appointment of IPS officer J Elanchezhian (2010 batch, Punjab cadre) as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
According to an official order issued on August 8, 2025, the competent authority has cleared his induction into the premier investigating agency for an initial period of five years, starting from the date he assumes charge, or until further orders—whichever is earlier.
Experienced Officer Joins India’s Premier Investigation Agency
Mr. J Elanchezhian brings over a decade of experience in law enforcement and administration. His appointment as DIG in the CBI comes as part of routine high-level deputations of Indian Police Service (IPS) officers to central investigative and intelligence agencies.
While specific details of his posting within the CBI have not been disclosed yet, DIGs typically oversee major criminal investigations, anti-corruption cases, economic offences, or special operations, depending on their assigned division.
CBI Strengthens Leadership Amid Expanding Mandate
The CBI, India’s central investigative agency under the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), continues to bolster its leadership team amid an increasing caseload spanning financial fraud, corruption, cybercrime, and transnational investigations.
Elanchezhian’s appointment is expected to further strengthen the agency’s operational depth as it navigates complex investigations in coordination with state police forces and international agencies.
