New Delhi: Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Limited has announced a key leadership change at the top level, appointing its Director (Finance) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Dr Bijay Kumar Mohanty, as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) on an additional charge basis. The move follows the retirement of outgoing CMD Mr. Pradip Kumar Das.
The change in leadership came into effect on July 1, 2026, marking an important transition in the management of the Navratna public sector enterprise.
Leadership Transition at IREDA
The restructuring at IREDA has taken place following the superannuation of its former CMD:
- Retirement of outgoing CMD: Mr. Pradip Kumar Das ceased to hold the post of Chairman and Managing Director on June 30, 2026, after attaining the age of superannuation.
- New interim appointment: Dr Bijay Kumar Mohanty has been assigned additional charge as CMD with effect from July 1, 2026.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has entrusted him with the responsibility for a period of three months or until a regular CMD is appointed, whichever is earlier.
Role Assigned to Dr Bijay Kumar Mohanty
Dr Mohanty, who currently serves as Director (Finance) and CFO at IREDA, will now oversee the additional responsibilities of Chairman and Managing Director.
His appointment has been made under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015, ensuring full compliance with disclosure norms applicable to listed public sector enterprises.
Professional Background of Dr Mohanty
Dr Bijay Kumar Mohanty brings more than 27 years of experience in the Indian power and energy sector.
His academic and professional credentials include:
- Doctorate in Philosophy (Commerce)
- Fellow Member of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India
He has been serving as Director (Finance) at IREDA since October 2023 and has played a key role in strengthening the organisation’s financial management framework.
Career Experience in Power Sector Institutions
Before joining IREDA, Dr Mohanty held senior leadership positions in key public sector organisations, including:
- REC Limited
- REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL)
His expertise spans financial planning, corporate governance, project evaluation, and sectoral financial management in the power and renewable energy domain.
Regulatory Compliance and Stock Exchange Disclosure
IREDA informed stock exchanges about the leadership change in accordance with SEBI Listing Regulations. The notification confirmed:
- The cessation of Mr. Pradip Kumar Das as CMD upon retirement
- Appointment of Dr Bijay Kumar Mohanty as interim CMD on additional charge
- Validity of the appointment for three months or until a regular appointment is made
The order was issued by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy on June 30, 2026.
