New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the extension of Mahendra Kumar’s central deputation tenure as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Labour & Employment for a further period of one year.
The extension will be effective beyond May 22, 2025, or until further orders, whichever is earlier, according to an official order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on Saturday, May 10.
An officer of the 1999 batch of the Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineers (IRSEE), Mr. Kumar was initially appointed as Director in the Ministry of Labour & Employment in May 2019 for a five-year term. Before the completion of that tenure, he was granted a one-year extension in April 2024.
Subsequently, on March 1, 2024, he was empanelled for holding Joint Secretary or equivalent positions in the Government of India. Following his empanelment, he was promoted and appointed as Joint Secretary in the same ministry. His tenure in this upgraded role has now been formally extended.
The move underscores the Ministry’s confidence in Mr. Kumar’s administrative leadership and policy oversight, particularly at a time when key labour reforms and employment initiatives are under active implementation.
