Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh is set to add a major artificial intelligence and high-performance computing facility to its digital infrastructure landscape, with AM Group planning a 384 MW data centre hub in Sector 28 of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) area in Jewar.
The Phase-I project will be spread across 114 acres and involves an investment of ₹26,910 crore, with commissioning targeted for 2028. The development forms part of AM Group’s larger plan for a 1 GW high-performance computing and AI infrastructure facility, which is targeted for full commissioning by 2030.
Uttar Pradesh government investment agency Invest UP listed the Jewar data centre project among its August 31 developments.
Awanish Awasthi Announces Jewar Data Centre Plan
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister’s adviser and former Chief Secretary Awanish Kumar Awasthi, a retired 1987-batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, also highlighted the project on X.
He wrote:
“AM Group is set to develop a major Data Center Hub in Jewar, Sector 28, YEIDA.”
Awasthi stated that the Phase-I project would cover 114 acres, involve an investment of ₹26,910 crore and have a planned capacity of 384 MW, with commissioning scheduled for 2028.
He added that the overall 1 GW facility is targeted for full commissioning by 2030, describing it as a further addition to Uttar Pradesh’s digital infrastructure.
Part of AM Group’s 1 GW AI Compute Project
The Jewar development is part of the larger AI and high-performance computing project announced by AM Group earlier this year.
In January, AM Group signed an MoU with Invest UP to establish a 1 GW High Performance Compute Hub in Uttar Pradesh with an estimated investment of around $25 billion. The project was planned to be developed in phases, with initial capacity coming up in 2028 and the full 1 GW targeted for 2030.
The company said the facility would cater to global AI workloads and support applications involving hyperscalers, frontier AI laboratories, enterprises and India’s sovereign AI initiatives.
The broader project includes:
- 1 GW planned high-performance computing capacity
- First capacity targeted for 2028
- Full capacity targeted for 2030
- Approximately 5 lakh high-performance chipsets planned at scale
- AI and high-performance computing infrastructure
- Integration with 24/7 carbon-free energy solutions
- Targeted applications across global and domestic AI workloads
YEIDA Area Emerges as AI Infrastructure Location
The project is being developed in the YEIDA area, which is also part of the wider industrial development taking place around Jewar and the Noida International Airport region.
Earlier in February, AM Group’s affiliate AM AI Labs received a Letter of Intent from YEIDA for land for the first two phases of the 1 GW project. At that stage, the company described the first two phases as comprising 150 MW and 200 MW, with 350 MW expected to be operational by 2028.
The latest Phase-I plan announced by the Uttar Pradesh government specifies 384 MW across 114 acres in Sector 28, providing updated details of the Jewar development.
AI Computing to Be Backed by Clean Energy
The broader project is designed around AM Group’s energy-transition business and its plans to integrate computing infrastructure with carbon-free power.
AM Group has said the facility will use 24/7 carbon-free energy solutions, including wind, solar and pumped-storage projects.
The company has also positioned the project as an integrated AI infrastructure platform combining power, data centre infrastructure, high-performance computing hardware, software and AI applications.
Project to Add to Uttar Pradesh’s Digital Infrastructure Push
The Uttar Pradesh government has been promoting the state as a destination for data centres, AI infrastructure and other technology-led investments.
The AM Group project adds a large-scale high-performance computing component to the state’s existing data-centre and digital infrastructure plans, with the first 384 MW phase in Jewar forming part of the larger 1 GW facility.
The project is expected to be developed in phases, with 2028 set as the commissioning target for the first phase and 2030 for the full 1 GW facility.
