Ranchi: A delegation from the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FJCCI) met with Jharkhand Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Deepika Pandey Singh to discuss key initiatives for the state’s development and strengthening the rural economy. The meeting also included discussions on Jharkhand’s participation in the World Economic Forum at Davos.
Strengthening Rural Economy Through Industrial Development
During the meeting, the delegation emphasized the need to promote industries in rural areas as a solution to the limited availability of land in urban centers. They suggested providing subsidized land and incentives to attract investors to rural regions.
“Encouraging industrial development in villages will not only boost the rural economy but also generate employment opportunities for local communities,” the delegation stated.
Minister Singh acknowledged the proposal, highlighting the government’s commitment to rural economic empowerment.
Expanding Rail Connectivity for Rural Communities
The delegation also suggested expanding MEMU train services beyond Ranchi to Lohardaga, Torri, and Asansol. Currently, these trains allow daily commuting from rural areas to urban centers, benefiting numerous residents.
Minister Singh called it a valuable suggestion and assured that she would discuss the matter with the Union Railway Minister to explore the possibility of extending services to other districts.
Promoting Local Brands and Products
The FJCCI delegation proposed collaboration with the state government to promote and brand local products under the “Palash” initiative. Minister Singh responded positively, committing to showcase Palash products effectively with the support of the Chamber.
Additionally, Chamber President Aditya Malhotra suggested the establishment of a “Mahua Board” in Jharkhand, similar to Bihar’s Makhana Board, to strengthen local agricultural and forest produce markets. Minister Singh assured prompt and appropriate action on the proposal.
Focus on Rural Development and Economic Growth
The meeting reflected a strong focus on:
- Boosting rural industry and entrepreneurship
- Creating job opportunities in villages
- Strengthening transport connectivity and rail services
- Promoting local brands and agricultural products
- Establishing institutional support for rural forest and agricultural produce
The discussions underscored the importance of public-private collaboration in driving Jharkhand’s rural development and creating a sustainable economic ecosystem.
