Ranchi: A 17-member delegation from the National Defence College (NDC) met Chief Minister Hemant Soren at his official residence in Kanke Road, Ranchi, on Tuesday. During the interaction, the CM outlined Jharkhand’s strengths in industry, education, sports, and its significant contribution to the national economy.
Jharkhand’s Rich Cultural and Sports Legacy
CM Soren highlighted the state’s natural and mineral resources and its vibrant tribal culture, which he described as a valuable heritage. He pointed out Jharkhand’s achievements in sports, noting that nearly half of the Indian women’s hockey team, including the captain, hails from the state. Prominent names like former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni and world-class archer Deepika Kumari have brought international recognition to Jharkhand.
Soren also emphasized the government’s progressive sports policy, designed to provide better platforms and support for athletes.

Advancements in Education
The Chief Minister said the state government is actively working to improve education standards. Key initiatives include:
- Upgrading government schools into CM Schools of Excellence with facilities comparable to private institutions.
- Strengthening coordination with private educational institutions to enhance learning opportunities.
- Running 10 government medical colleges alongside private institutions.
- Expanding nursing and polytechnic education with the establishment of several new institutions.
- Providing interest-free loans up to Rs 15 lakh under the Guruji Credit Card scheme to students pursuing higher education.
Industrial Growth and Investment Potential
Soren highlighted Jharkhand’s industrial legacy, with the presence of major companies like Tata Group, HEC, and steel and fertiliser plants. He mentioned that the state’s investor-friendly policies have attracted interest from domestic and global investors.
The CM also noted Jharkhand’s first-time participation in the World Economic Forum annual meeting, promising that learnings from the global platform would benefit the state in the future. He invited delegation members to visit Jharia in Dhanbad to understand the long-standing underground fire challenge.
Contribution to National Economy
Jharkhand significantly contributes to India’s economy:
- Highest railway revenue and largest mineral transportation.
- Leading producer of tasar silk, lac, and forest produce.
- Government initiatives ensure fair prices for farmers through federations, processing centres, and market access.
Welfare Initiatives and Rural Development
The CM emphasized government programs for rural and tribal communities:
- Animal husbandry promotion to enhance income and nutrition.
- Initiatives in green energy for environmental protection.
- Efforts to reduce left-wing extremism and create a Naxal-free Jharkhand.
Key welfare schemes highlighted include:
- Mukhyamantri Maiya Samman Yojana: 53 lakh women receive Rs 2,500 monthly via direct benefit transfer.
- Nutritious meals at anganwadis, including eggs six days a week, addressing malnutrition among children.
- Sarvajan Pension Yojana: First universal pension scheme in India covering old age, widow, disability, and destitute pensions.
International Engagement
The meeting was attended by senior state officials and military officers from five countries, along with NDC leaders including Major General Hartej Singh Bajaj and Brigadier Surveer Singh.
The NDC delegation appreciated Jharkhand’s welfare initiatives, educational reforms, and commitment to socio-economic development, emphasizing the state’s balanced growth approach.
