Palamu’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Ms. Rishma Rameshan has set a heartwarming example of cultural sensitivity and public connection by actively participating in traditional paddy plantation within the premises of her official residence. Upholding the spirit of local agricultural rituals, she offered prayers, sang folk songs, and personally stepped into the fields to transplant paddy seedlings—following the full tradition of ‘Dhanrapani’.
This act was more than ceremonial. Ms. Rameshan, who comes from a middle-class background and whose in-laws are from a farming family in Bihar, said that agricultural practices—especially paddy plantation—have fascinated her since childhood. Her participation during the ongoing monsoon season highlighted a deep respect for Jharkhand’s cultural traditions and rural identity.
The ‘Dhanrapani’ ritual involves prayers for a good harvest, folk music, and a communal spirit. The SP observed all these traditions sincerely, conveying a powerful social message—that no matter the rank or uniform, it is vital to stay rooted in one’s culture. Her initiative has won the admiration of the local community, reinforcing trust between the administration and the people.
Ms. Rameshan’s action is not just symbolic; it resonates with her image as an officer who values humanity, simplicity, and cultural ties. Having earlier celebrated Chhath festival with equal sincerity, she continues to strengthen the bond between governance and grassroots traditions.
