New Delhi/Prayagraj: In a significant step towards bolstering the judiciary in Uttar Pradesh, the Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of three judicial officers as Judges of the Allahabad High Court. The decision was made during the Collegium’s meeting held on July 1, 2025.
Names Recommended for Elevation
According to the official communication released by the Supreme Court, the following judicial officers have been approved for elevation–
- Pramod Kumar Srivastava-II
- Santosh Rai
- Zafeer Ahmad
Their elevation is part of the Collegium’s ongoing effort to fill judicial vacancies and enhance the efficiency and capacity of the Allahabad High Court, which is one of the largest and busiest high courts in the country.
Addressing Vacancies in the Judiciary
The recommendation comes amid concerns over the high number of vacancies across several high courts in India, which has contributed to delays in the judicial process. The Allahabad High Court, in particular, has been functioning with a shortfall of judges, affecting the timely disposal of cases.
The Collegium’s decision underscores the judiciary’s commitment to maintaining judicial strength and improving access to justice in populous states like Uttar Pradesh.
Next Steps in the Appointment Process
The recommended names will now be forwarded to the Union Ministry of Law and Justice, which will process them for Presidential approval. Upon notification by the President of India, the appointments will become official, and the newly appointed judges will take their oath of office.
