During the hearing, the Gujarat High Court expressed strong displeasure over the handling of the case and asked why senior officials have not faced action despite allegations and an ongoing inquiry. 

The court stressed that accountability should not be limited to lower-level officers and sought a clear response from the Gujarat government.

The case is related to a demolition drive carried out in the Nasirnagar area of Surat. Several affected families approached the Gujarat High Court, alleging that their homes were demolished and that proper procedures were not followed. The matter has been under judicial scrutiny, with the court examining the role of the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) and government authorities.

Nasirnagar Demolition Case: Gujarat High Court Expresses Concern

During the latest hearing, the Gujarat High Court expressed dissatisfaction with the actions of the Surat Municipal Corporation. The court observed that if the demolition was found to be improper, responsibility should not stop at junior officials alone.

Judges questioned why senior officers, including those in leadership positions, had not faced action despite serious allegations and investigations.

The High Court specifically raised concerns regarding the role of the Surat Municipal Commissioner. The court asked why an official facing such serious questions and an ongoing inquiry continues to hold office. Government’s Response Under Scrutiny

The court indicated that the state government’s handling of the issue was also under examination. According to observations made during the hearing, if mistakes occurred during the demolition process, accountability should be fixed at the appropriate administrative level. The court asked the government to submit a satisfactory response on the concerns raised.

Nasirnagar Demolition Case: Court Highlights Impact on Affected Families

The High Court noted the difficulties faced by families whose homes were demolished. It observed that citizens should not be forced to bear the burden of administrative errors. The court also questioned why affected people had to spend time and money seeking legal relief if mistakes were committed by officials.

Recovery of Costs From Responsible Officials Suggested

The court suggested that expenses arising from wrongful actions should be recovered from the salaries of officials found responsible. This observation came while discussing accountability and the financial burden placed on affected residents. The court stressed the importance of ensuring that innocent citizens do not suffer because of administrative lapses.
