Mrs Kanchan Devi, an Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer of 1991-batch has become the first lady officer to be appointed Director General, of Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE). She took over the charge on Thursday. .
ICFRE was formed to achieve long-term ecological stability, sustainable development and economic security through conservation and scientific management of forest ecosystems. The council’s objective was to generate, advance and disseminate scientific knowledge and technologies for ecological security, improved productivity, livelihoods enhancement and sustainable use of forest resources through forestry research and education.
