Out of the total of 1009 candidates who qualified, only 875 have been allocated the services as of now, as per the list released by the P&T department.

WHO GOT WHAT

Predictably, following the trend of the past few years, all 20 out of the top 20 rankers in UPSC CSE 2024 were allocated the IAS. The only exception among the top 25 was Gee Gee A S (AIR 25), who opted for the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and became the top-ranked candidate in the IFS list. A total of 55 candidates have been allotted the IFS this year.

As expected, Shakti Dubey (AIR 1) opted for the IAS. The top 22 rankers in UPSC CSE 2024 have chosen IAS.

B. Sivachandran (AIR 23) has been allotted the IPS and is the first candidate in the IPS list. He belongs to the General category.

Ankita Kanti, AIR 134, got IRS and became first in the list. She is from general category.

As per the list, 179 have been allocated IAS, 147 IPS, 274 IRS, 55 IFS, 19 IA&AS, 21 ICAS, 6 IDES, 5 IPOS, 6 DANIPS, 17 IDAS, 5 ITS, 13 DANICS, 0 PONDICS and 4 ICLS.

The service allocation list can be seen here below

INDIAN FOREIGN SERVICES

Once among the most sought-after services, the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) saw only one candidate from the top 25 opt for it this year. In comparison, last year, one candidate from the top 20 chose the IFS, while the year before that, none of the top 20 candidates opted for it.

CATEGORY WISE SERVICE ALLOCATION

In the General category, candidates up to AIR 80 have been allocated IAS. In the OBC category, Gowsika P. R., with Rank 447, has been allocated IAS. In the SC category, candidates up to Rank 468 have received IAS, while in the ST category, the allocation extended up to Rank 456.

In the Physically Handicapped (PH) category, Yash Kumar (General), with AIR 990, has been allocated to the IAS.

HOW SERVICES ARE ALLOCATED

While allocating services to any category, many factors are taken into consideration. They are:

  • The rank of the candidate in the CSE.
  • Candidate’s order of preference for service.
  • Candidate’s category like General, OBC, SC, ST, etc.
  • Availability of vacancy in the candidate’s category.
  • Findings of the Medical Board/Appellate Board with respect to the candidate.

If a candidate does not give preferences for all the civil services, and he/she doesn’t get the services for which he/she had given preferences, then he/she will be considered for the remaining services where there are vacancies after the allocation to all the candidates, who could be allocated to cadres according to their preferences.
