Kanpur: In a shocking case of fraud and deception, a woman from Kalyanpur, Kanpur was allegedly duped of ₹71 lakh and gold-silver jewelry by a man who posed as a government officer and claimed he had been selected for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). The police have registered a case against four people and are actively investigating the matter.
How the Scam Unfolded
According to the police, the accused, Nitesh Pandey from Chakeri, introduced himself to the victim as a field officer in a government bank and gradually gained her trust. He also promised to marry her after becoming an IAS officer.
As part of the deception, Nitesh claimed he had first been selected as an एसडीएम (Sub-Divisional Magistrate) and later for the IAS, presenting fake joining documents and a government email ID through WhatsApp to make his claims appear genuine.
The victim’s trust in him grew as Nitesh’s brother Jitesh, sister-in-law Akanksha, and family friend Diwakar Mishra (alias Satyam) allegedly confirmed his story.

She was also reportedly coerced into giving gold and silver jewelry worth around ₹45 lakh, including silver bars. When she requested the money back, the accused presented a fake appointment letter and a check before cutting off communication.
Later, the victim alleges that the group threatened to leak her private pictures, adding a layer of blackmail to the scam.

The matter reportedly escalated on October 14, 2025, when Diwakar Mishra broke into the woman’s house, brandishing a knife and threatening the entire family with false legal implications if they reported him.
