Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren extended greetings and Johar to people across the state and the country on Karam Parv, describing the festival as a reflection of Jharkhand’s deep connection with nature, culture and community traditions.

In his message, Soren said Karam Parv represents the close relationship between nature and human life, the bond between brothers and sisters, social unity and the state’s rich cultural heritage. He also underlined the importance of preserving nature and passing traditional knowledge and cultural practices on to future generations.

Karam Parv Reflects Jharkhand’s Cultural Identity

Soren said Karam Parv is deeply connected with Jharkhand’s identity and way of life. The festival reminds people of the relationship between human communities and the natural environment around them.

According to his message, the festival encourages people to respect nature and remain grateful for the resources that sustain life. He also stressed that water, forests and land are not merely sources of livelihood but are closely linked to the culture, traditions and heritage that communities pass on to future generations.

The message places the festival within a wider idea of cultural continuity, where traditional celebrations remain relevant even as society moves towards modernisation and development.

A Festival of Nature and Sibling Bonds

Karam Parv also carries a strong social and family dimension. Soren highlighted the festival’s association with the bond of affection and trust between brothers and sisters.

The celebration brings communities together through traditional rituals, music and dance. The installation of the Karam branch at the Akhara, the beats of the mandar, Karam songs and collective dances form an important part of the festival’s cultural expression.

These traditions provide an opportunity for communities to celebrate together while keeping local customs and folk practices alive.

Karam is widely recognised as one of Jharkhand’s important folk festivals and is closely associated with nature, community life and sibling relationships.

Keeping Traditional Knowledge Alive

Soren said one of the most important aspects of Karam Parv is the reminder it provides to remain connected with one’s roots.

He noted that while Jharkhand continues on the path of modernisation and development, people should also strengthen their relationship with their:

  • Language and culture
  • Traditional practices and folk knowledge
  • Natural surroundings
  • Community traditions

The Chief Minister emphasised that the cultural knowledge inherited from previous generations should reach future generations in a strong and preserved form.

This message also highlights the role of traditional festivals in maintaining a connection between communities, their history and their natural environment.

Nature Conservation at the Heart of the Message

Nature conservation formed a key part of Soren’s Karam Parv message. He said the festival inspires people to respect, protect and remain grateful towards nature.

His emphasis on the relationship between nature and human life is also consistent with his earlier public messages around Jharkhand’s nature-based cultural traditions. In August, while speaking at the state’s Van Mahotsav, Soren described forests and nature as an integral part of Jharkhand’s social and cultural life and stressed that environmental protection is a responsibility shared by society.

Karam Parv therefore provides a cultural reminder that development and modernisation can move forward while maintaining a connection with the environment and traditional knowledge.

Message of Peace, Prosperity and Social Unity

Concluding his greetings, Soren wished for happiness, peace, prosperity and well-being in every family on the occasion of Karam Parv.

He also expressed hope that the bond between brothers and sisters would become stronger and that mutual harmony and unity in society would grow.

The Chief Minister further wished for Jharkhand to continue progressing while maintaining harmony with its natural environment and cultural heritage.

For Jharkhand, where folk traditions and nature are closely intertwined, Karam Parv serves not only as a festival of celebration but also as an expression of community identity. The occasion brings together family, society, music, dance and traditional practices while renewing attention towards the protection of natural and cultural heritage.

As the state moves ahead with development and modernisation, the message around Karam Parv underlines the importance of carrying its traditional identity and connection with nature alongside that progress.
