Bengaluru: Days after assuming office as Karnataka Chief Minister, D K Shivakumar has initiated a major administrative reshuffle in the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), appointing two senior IAS officers to key positions. The Karnataka government on Wednesday (June 3, 2026) transferred senior bureaucrats Tushar Giri Nath and Rajendra Cholan P, entrusting them with crucial responsibilities in the new administration.
The appointments are being viewed as part of the broader effort to reorganize the Chief Minister’s Office and strengthen governance mechanisms under the new leadership.
Tushar Giri Nath Appointed Additional Chief Secretary to Chief Minister
As part of the reshuffle, senior IAS officer Tushar Giri Nath (IAS:1993: Karnataka) has been appointed as the Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister.
Prior to his new assignment, Tushar Giri Nath was serving as Additional Chief Secretary in the Urban Development Department. He succeeds Anjum Parwez (IAS:1994: Karnataka), who had been holding the position since June 4, 2025.

Notably, Anjum Parwez had taken over the post after the retirement of veteran bureaucrat L K Atheeq (IAS:1991: Karnataka), who demitted office in June 2025. Atheeq has now been appointed Financial Adviser to Chief Minister D K Shivakumar with status equivalent to that of the Chief Secretary.
According to the government order, Tushar Giri Nath will continue to hold concurrent charge of the Urban Development Department until further orders, ensuring continuity in one of the state’s most critical infrastructure and urban governance portfolios.
Key Bureaucrat with Extensive Administrative Experience
Tushar Giri Nath is among Karnataka’s most experienced senior bureaucrats and has handled several important assignments during his career.
As Additional Chief Secretary of the Urban Development Department, he has been closely involved in policy formulation and implementation relating to urban infrastructure, municipal governance, city development projects, and public service delivery.
His appointment to the Chief Minister’s Office is expected to provide administrative continuity and strengthen coordination between the government’s development agenda and departmental execution.
Rajendra Cholan P Named Secretary to Chief Minister
In another important appointment, Rajendra Cholan P (IAS:2008: Karnataka) has been transferred from the post of Secretary to the Deputy Chief Minister and appointed as Secretary to the Chief Minister.
He replaces Cauvery B B (IAS:2008: Karnataka), who had been serving as Secretary to the Chief Minister since October 2024.
The post of Secretary to the Chief Minister is considered one of the most influential positions in the state administration, serving as a crucial link between the Chief Minister’s Office and various government departments.
Rajendra Cholan is expected to play a central role in policy coordination, monitoring implementation of government decisions, and facilitating communication across departments.
Additional Charge of KPCL Managing Director
The Karnataka government has also assigned Rajendra Cholan an additional responsibility.
He has been given concurrent charge as Managing Director of Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL), one of the state’s most important power generation utilities.
With this appointment, Gaurav Gupta, IAS, has been relieved of the additional charge of KPCL Managing Director.
The dual responsibility places Rajendra Cholan at the centre of both administrative coordination in the Chief Minister’s Office and strategic oversight of Karnataka’s power sector operations.
Major Reorganization of the Chief Minister’s Office
The latest appointments come as Chief Minister D K Shivakumar begins shaping his administrative team following his assumption of office.
The reshuffle signals the government’s intention to place experienced officers in key decision-making positions within the CMO. Both Tushar Giri Nath and Rajendra Cholan are regarded as capable administrators with significant experience in governance and public administration.
The appointments are expected to enhance coordination between the Chief Minister’s Office and line departments while ensuring smoother implementation of the government’s policy priorities.
Administrative Significance
The Chief Minister’s Office serves as the nerve centre of governance in Karnataka, coordinating policy decisions, monitoring flagship programmes, and ensuring inter-departmental cooperation.
By appointing a senior officer of Tushar Giri Nath’s stature as Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister and entrusting Rajendra Cholan with the role of Secretary to the Chief Minister, the Karnataka government has sought to strengthen the administrative backbone of the new regime.
The reshuffle also comes alongside other significant appointments made after D K Shivakumar assumed office, indicating a broader restructuring aimed at aligning the bureaucracy with the government’s governance and development objectives.
