Karnataka: Veteran IPS Officer Kamal Pant Retires, Leaves 34-Year Legacy of Exemplary Policing

Senior IPS officer Kamal Pant, celebrated for his illustrious 34-year career in effective policing and public service, retired on June 30th. Pant, a member of the 1990 batch of the Indian Police Service, has left an indelible mark on law enforcement in Bengaluru and beyond.

Born on June 21, 1964, in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh, Pant began his journey with a strong academic background in Applied Geology from Delhi University before joining the IPS on August 20, 1990, as reported by the Deccan Herald.

During his tenure as Bengaluru Police Commissioner from 2020 to 2022, Pant spearheaded numerous reforms and stringent measures that significantly impacted law enforcement in the city. Under his leadership, the Bengaluru police intensified actions against criminal elements by invoking the Goonda Act, leading to substantial reductions in criminal activities. His administration also launched a successful anti-drug campaign, resulting in the dismantling of drug networks across Bengaluru.

Pant’s career extended beyond city policing. He played a pivotal role in investigating corruption within the Karnataka Lokayukta and contributed to the Central Bureau of Investigation and Anti-Corruption Branch during his service in central organizations.

Throughout his distinguished career, Pant has been recognized with prestigious awards including the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service, underscoring his exceptional contributions to law enforcement and public safety.

As Pant prepares to retire from his current roles as Director General of Police for Fire and Emergency Services and DGP (Recruitment), colleagues and citizens alike acknowledge his legacy of professionalism, dedication, and transformative leadership in policing.
