Jalandhar (Punjab): On the occasion of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann attended a state-level function in Udeshian village, Adampur (Jalandhar), where he launched the ‘Mukhyamantri Maanwan-Dheeyan Satkar Yojana’, a major welfare scheme aimed at women’s financial empowerment.
The event marked a significant step in the state’s social welfare initiatives focused on gender equality and economic support for women.
Ambedkar Jayanti Celebrations and State-Level Event
The Chief Minister participated as the chief guest at the event held in Udeshian village, which holds strong social and demographic significance in the region. The occasion was organized to honor Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s legacy and his contribution to social justice and equality.

Launch of ‘Maanwan-Dheeyan Satkar Yojana’
Under the newly launched scheme:
- ₹1500 per month will be provided to women belonging to Scheduled Castes
- ₹1000 per month will be given to other eligible women
The scheme aims to strengthen financial independence and improve the socio-economic condition of women across Punjab.
Direct Financial Assistance to Women Beneficiaries
According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the scheme is expected to benefit over 97% of women in the state, making it one of Punjab’s largest women-centric social welfare programs.
Key features include:
- Direct benefit transfer (DBT) to bank accounts
- No restriction on number of eligible women per family
- Existing pension beneficiaries will receive additional benefits
- Financial support aimed at savings, investment, and household needs
Eligibility Criteria for the Scheme
Women eligible under the scheme must:
- Be 18 years or older
- Be registered voters in Punjab
- Have a Punjab domicile Aadhaar card
- Possess a valid voter ID issued by the Election Commission of India
The government has also initiated a large-scale registration drive to ensure maximum outreach, especially in rural and backward areas.
Budget Allocation and Government Commitment
The Punjab government has already allocated ₹9,300 crore in the 2026–27 budget for the implementation of this scheme. Officials stated that this reflects the government’s commitment to expanding social security and empowering women across the state.
Village Profile and Political Significance
Udeshian village in Adampur has notable demographic features:
- Around 65% Scheduled Caste population
- 90% literacy rate
- Sex ratio of 984 females per 1000 males, higher than Punjab’s average
The Adampur constituency also holds political importance in the region.

CM Bhagwant Mann emphasized that the scheme is designed to ensure financial independence, dignity, and empowerment for women, enabling them to participate more actively in economic and social development. He said the initiative reflects the government’s broader vision of inclusive growth and welfare-driven governance.
