Bhopal: In a significant move to strengthen infrastructure and public services in Madhya Pradesh, the state cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has given administrative approval to projects worth over ₹7,000 crore. The approved projects include the Indore-Ujjain Greenfield Highway, a new railway over bridge (ROB) in Ujjain, the Narmadapuram-Timarni road project, and multiple Jal Jeevan Mission schemes aimed at improving drinking water supply.
Indore–Ujjain Greenfield Highway Gets ₹2,935 Cr Approval
A major highlight of the meeting was the approval of ₹2,935 crore for the development of a 48.10 km long Greenfield Access-Controlled Highway between Indore and Ujjain. This 4-lane highway will include service roads on both sides, 34 underpasses, 2 flyovers, 1 railway over bridge, and 7 large bridges.
Model: Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM)
- Concession Period: 17 years
- Key Objective: Fast-track, safer travel between Indore and Ujjain
The previous approval granted under the Public Works Department model has been cancelled, and the project will now be executed under a revised model to ensure efficiency and timely completion.
Ujjain to Get New Railway Over Bridge Ahead of Simhastha 2028
To improve infrastructure ahead of the Simhastha Mahakumbh 2028, a 4-lane, 980-meter long Railway Over Bridge (ROB) has been approved at the Harifatak railway crossing in Ujjain, extending up to Neelkanth Dwar.
- Budget: ₹371 crore
- Purpose: Ease traffic congestion, facilitate smooth pilgrim movement during Simhastha
Narmadapuram–Timarni Road Upgradation Sanctioned
The cabinet also cleared the rejuvenation of a 72.18 km long, two-lane paved shoulder road between Narmadapuram and Timarni at a total cost of ₹972 crore, which includes land acquisition costs.
Key features:
- 2 underpasses
- 4 large bridges
- 37 medium bridges
- 52 additional structures
- Road safety, junction improvements, and road furniture
Like the highway project, this road will also be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Model with a 17-year concession period.
Jal Jeevan Mission Projects Receive Revised Approvals
In addition to transport infrastructure, the cabinet reviewed and approved revised Jal Jeevan Mission schemes to enhance the drinking water supply system across rural and semi-urban areas.
These schemes are expected to:
- Improve rural water access
- Reduce dependency on tankers
- Strengthen water management infrastructure
- Boost to State Development & Connectivity
The ₹7,000 crore investment signals a major development push under CM Mohan Yadav’s leadership. With a focus on urban mobility, rural connectivity, and essential services, these projects aim to transform Madhya Pradesh’s infrastructure landscape.
Officials stated that the approvals are part of a broader roadmap to:
- Enhance inter-district connectivity
- Facilitate pilgrim and tourism flows
- Ensure sustainable development in line with long-term state planning
