Madhya Pradesh Dairy Sector Grows 11% as CM Mohan Yadav Pushes State Toward India’s “Milk Capital” Status

Milk producers receive 15% higher payments worth ₹1,609 crore, 1,752 new cooperatives formed, and Sanchi brand sales grow as MP accelerates its push to become India’s “Milk Capital” with major dairy infrastructure expansion.

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh is making steady progress toward becoming India’s “Milk Capital,” Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said while reviewing the state’s Animal Husbandry and Dairy Department in Bhopal. He noted that coordinated efforts are yielding results, with rising milk production, higher farmer incomes, and expanded dairy infrastructure across the state.

Milk Collection Rises 11% to 9.67 Lakh Kg Per Day

The state has recorded a significant increase in milk procurement:

  • Daily milk collection: 9.67 lakh kg
  • Growth: 11% increase compared to last year
  • Recent average (6 months): Over 11 lakh kg per day

The Chief Minister said this consistent growth reflects strong grassroots participation and improved dairy systems.

15% Higher Payments to Milk Producers

A key highlight of the review meeting was the rise in payments to dairy farmers:

  • Total payment (FY 2025–26): ₹1,609 crore
  • Previous year (FY 2024–25): ₹1,398 crore
  • Growth: 15% increase

Milk unions have also increased procurement prices by ₹2.50 to ₹8.50 per litre, directly benefiting dairy farmers and improving rural incomes.

Expansion of Dairy Infrastructure and Cooperatives

The state has significantly expanded its dairy network:

  • 1,752 new dairy cooperative societies formed
  • Modernisation of Gwalior dairy plant
  • Revival of Shivpuri dairy plant
  • Launch of a 3 lakh litre/day milk powder plant in Indore

These initiatives aim to strengthen milk processing and value addition across Madhya Pradesh.

Strong Performance of ‘Sanchi’ Dairy Brand

The state’s dairy brand Sanchi has shown improved market performance:

  • Ghee sales increased by 17%
  • Growth in paneer, curd, buttermilk, and flavoured milk sales
  • Improved packaging and branding strategies have boosted consumer demand

Officials said the brand strengthening efforts are helping expand market reach.

Key Dairy Development Schemes Reviewed

During the high-level meeting, the Chief Minister reviewed several key initiatives, including:

  • Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Kamdhenu Yojana
  • Acharya Vidyasagar Cow Promotion Scheme
  • Mukhyamantri Dairy Plus Programme
  • Animal nutrition and cattle healthcare initiatives
  • Self-reliant gaushala development
  • Ksheeradhara Gram Scheme
  • Breed improvement programs and dairy cooperative expansion
  • Support from National Dairy Development Board (NDDB)

Madhya Pradesh Targets Top Position in Milk Production

Currently ranked third in milk production in India, Madhya Pradesh has set an ambitious target to become number one.

CM Mohan Yadav emphasized that ongoing reforms, infrastructure upgrades, and farmer-focused policies are laying the foundation for a “white revolution” in the state.

Madhya Pradesh is witnessing steady growth in milk production, farmer earnings, and dairy infrastructure under its long-term development strategy. With rising procurement, expanding cooperatives, and stronger branding, the state is positioning itself as a major hub in India’s dairy sector.
