Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh has emerged as the country’s top-performing state in horticulture development. The state has received the first national award for outstanding performance in expanding horticulture crops.

Speaking at the Balram Krishi Mahotsav in Betul via video conference, Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav said modern technology and scientific farming are the keys to farmers’ prosperity. He added that greater use of government schemes can also help increase farm income.

Technology Can Transform Agriculture

Dr Yadav urged farmers to adopt advanced farming techniques and interact with agricultural experts during the festival. According to him, scientific agriculture can improve productivity while reducing farming risks.

The Balram Krishi Mahotsav is being organised from July 15 to November 13. During this period, government officials are visiting villages to spread awareness about modern farming methods and welfare schemes.

Betul Leads Agricultural Growth

The Chief Minister praised Betul for its fertile land, rich natural resources and hardworking farmers. He said the district has become a leading producer of maize in both Madhya Pradesh and the country.

He also noted that farmers in Betul contribute significantly to the production of wheat, paddy and millets. According to him, districts like Betul have helped Madhya Pradesh earn the title of the “Food Basket of India.”

  • Kodo and Kutki growers to receive a ₹1,000 per quintal bonus.

He said these measures will make government services more farmer-friendly while improving earnings.

Strengthening the Farm-to-Market Chain

The state government is also focusing on irrigation and agricultural infrastructure. Dr Yadav said the Tapti Basin Mega Recharge Project, being implemented with Maharashtra, will improve irrigation and groundwater recharge in Betul, Burhanpur, Khandwa and nearby districts.

Meanwhile, the government is investing in food processing, warehousing, cold storage, grading, packaging and agricultural exports. These initiatives are expected to help farmers get better value for their produce.

A Push for Sustainable Growth

Dr Yadav reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making agriculture a profitable profession. He said the focus will remain on better technology, stronger infrastructure and higher incomes for farmers.

With continued investment in horticulture, irrigation and market connectivity, Madhya Pradesh is strengthening its position as one of India’s leading agricultural states. The latest initiatives are expected to improve rural livelihoods and support long-term agricultural growth.
