Bhopal, MP: In a significant development for the Madhya Pradesh Police, a total of 16 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers are set to be promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in 2026. The upcoming promotions come after the central government approved additional posts, creating more opportunities for senior officers.
Central Government Sanctions Additional Posts
This year, the central government sanctioned five Special Duty Posts (SDP) and six DIG posts in place of vacant Inspector General (IG) positions. This move has enabled a larger number of officers to receive promotions.
The Madhya Pradesh Police headquarters had earlier submitted a proposal requesting additional posts under the SDP scheme. The approval resulted in a total of 16 DIG positions being available for officers from the 2010, 2011, and 2012 IPS batches.
Promotion Schedule and Beneficiaries
The major promotions will take place in two phases. Thirteen officers are slated to be promoted on January 1, 2026, while three more will be elevated later in the year as senior officers retire.

Impact on Madhya Pradesh Police
The promotions are expected to strengthen the leadership structure within the Madhya Pradesh Police. By filling DIG-level positions, the force will have more senior officers available to handle operational and administrative responsibilities. The move also reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to reward experienced IPS officers from multiple batches.
With 16 officers moving up the ranks, the upcoming changes mark one of the largest promotion rounds in recent years, ensuring better administrative coverage across the state.
Looking Ahead
As officers from the 2010, 2011, and 2012 batches rise to the DIG rank, the Madhya Pradesh Police is likely to see enhanced efficiency and better coordination at senior levels. The phased promotion strategy, including mid-year appointments, also ensures continuity in leadership.
