Sagar: The Madhya Pradesh government has approved a major 227-km greenfield expressway project aimed at improving connectivity between Bundelkhand and Baghelkhand regions. The proposed Sagar–Satna Greenfield Expressway is currently in the Detailed Project Report (DPR) preparation stage.
The project is being developed by the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation and is expected to significantly reduce travel time and boost regional development.
New Expressway to Cut Travel Time Between Sagar and Satna
At present, the distance between Sagar and Satna is nearly 300 km by road, taking around 8 hours to travel.
The proposed 227-km expressway will reduce both distance and travel time, offering a faster and more efficient route between the two regions. The route is expected to pass through areas including Damoh and Rewa.
Modern Four-Lane Access-Controlled Highway
The upcoming project will be a four-lane access-controlled highway, designed to support high-speed traffic movement with improved safety standards.
Key features include:
- Divided carriageways for smooth traffic flow
- Restricted access to prevent local entry points
- No roadside shops or direct property access
- Designed for high-speed and heavy vehicle movement
This modern highway design aims to reduce accidents and improve driving efficiency.
DPR Preparation Underway for Mega Infrastructure Project
The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the expressway is currently being prepared. The task has been assigned to the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC), which has already initiated the tendering process.
Once completed, the DPR will outline alignment, cost estimates, environmental impact, and construction phases.
Boost to Connectivity Between Bundelkhand and Baghelkhand
The expressway is expected to transform connectivity between the two neighboring regions, which currently suffer from longer travel times and limited transport infrastructure.
Officials believe the project will:
- Strengthen inter-regional connectivity
- Promote economic activity and trade
- Improve mobility for passengers and freight transport
- Support industrial and agricultural growth
Government Focus on Regional Development
State Public Works Department Minister Rakesh Singh said the expressway will play a key role in improving transportation efficiency and boosting business opportunities between the two regions.
He added that better connectivity will lead to increased economic integration and development in Bundelkhand and Baghelkhand.
Strategic Infrastructure Push in Madhya Pradesh
The greenfield expressway is part of a broader infrastructure expansion plan in Madhya Pradesh, where several new highways and expressways are being developed to improve regional connectivity and economic growth. Officials say the project will support long-term development and strengthen the state’s transport network.
Future-Ready Transport Corridor
Once completed, the Sagar–Satna Greenfield Expressway is expected to become a key transport corridor in central India, offering faster travel, improved logistics, and safer road infrastructure for both passenger and commercial vehicles.
