Kolkata: In a bid to accelerate development projects across West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has requested enhanced monitoring through a team of 23 observers. Following this, Chief Secretary Mr Manoj Pant has officially notified the officers responsible for supervising key initiatives.
Focus on Timely Completion Ahead of Polls
Senior state government officials said that secretary-rank IAS officers have been tasked with ensuring that ongoing development and welfare projects are completed ahead of schedule, with assembly elections expected to be announced by early March. The CM’s directive aims to give a significant push to programs such as Banglar Bari, Pathashree, Rastashree, and Amader Para Amader Samadhan.

Coordination and Grievance Redressal
The notified officers will work closely with district magistrates to guide project execution, monitor grievance redress mechanisms, and submit regular reports to the secretariat. Their role includes providing actionable suggestions to expedite work and address complaints submitted through helpdesks.
Deployed Officers and Their Districts
Some of the deputed officers include Mr Santanu Basu, Information and Cultural Affairs Secretary, for Kolkata; Mr NS Nigam, Health Secretary, for South 24 Parganas; Mr P Ulganathan, Panchayat Secretary, for Malda; Mr Rajesh Pandey, MSME Secretary, for Nadia; and Mr Soumitra Mohan, Transport Secretary, for Kalimpong.
The move reflects the state government’s focus on delivering development outcomes efficiently and ensuring welfare schemes reach beneficiaries promptly ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
