Jaipur/New Delhi: In a continuing trend of All India Services (AIS) officers transferring cadres on the basis of marriage, Rajasthan has welcomed another woman IAS officer into its administrative fold.
The Central government has approved the inter-cadre transfer of IAS officer Charu (2022 batch, Tripura cadre) to Rajasthan cadre. This transfer comes in light of her marriage to IPS officer Sujit Shankar (2020 batch, Rajasthan cadre).
The official approval from the Centre was issued on Thursday, marking the sixth such cadre transfer to Rajasthan in the past five months – four of them involving women officers. All transfers have been approved under the marriage-based inter-cadre transfer policy of the Government of India.
A Growing Trend: Marriage-Based Transfers Bring Top Talent to Rajasthan
According to All India Services rules, officers can request a cadre change if their spouse is in another cadre. Either partner can apply to move to the other’s cadre, subject to approval by the Centre and state governments involved.
In recent months, this rule has led to a noticeable influx of married IAS and IPS officers into Rajasthan, strengthening the administrative capabilities of the state.

Officials believe this growing trend of cadre convergence due to marriage reflects changing dynamics in the civil services – highlighting personal compatibility as well as professional synergy.
