Shillong: The Meghalaya Government has effected a minor reshuffle in the state police department, appointing new Superintendents of Police (SPs) in three key districts – West Jaintia Hills, East Jaintia Hills, and South West Garo Hills – as part of an administrative streamlining effort.
According to an official notification issued by the Home (Police) Department, the reshuffle includes five IPS officers of varying seniority and impacts both field and security postings.
Key Transfers and Appointments:
Jagpal Singh Dhanoa, IPS (RR:2016)
- Previously: SP, Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Shillong
- Now: SP, West Jaintia Hills, Jowai
- He replaces Chemphang Syrti, IPS, who moves to SP (R/PR), Shillong.
Giri Prasad M, IPS (RR:2017)
- Previously: SP, East Jaintia Hills, Khliehriat
- Now: SP, ANTF, Shillong
- He replaces Dhanoa.

Vikash Kumar, IPS (RR:2018)
- Previously: SP, South West Garo Hills, Ampati

- Previously: SP, CM Security, Shillong
- Now: SP, South West Garo Hills, Ampati
- He replaces Vikash Kumar.
Ishan Gupta, IPS (RR:2021)
- Previously: Additional SP, West Jaintia Hills
- Now: Additional SP, CM Security, Shillong
- He takes over from Vikash Varma.
Objective of the Reshuffle
Officials indicated that the reshuffle is part of routine cadre management aimed at streamlining district-level leadership and ensuring optimal deployment of resources for law enforcement and internal security.
The movement of officers also reflects a balanced rotation between district policing, narcotics enforcement, and VIP security roles, providing the officers with broader operational exposure across departments.
