The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed contracts with Bharat Forge Limited and Tata Advanced Systems Limited for the procurement of 155mm/52 Calibre Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems (ATAGS) and High Mobility Vehicle 6×6 Gun Towing Vehicles, respectively. The total contract value is approximately Rs 6,900 crore. The agreements were formalized in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh at South Block, New Delhi. With this, the MoD’s cumulative capital procurement contract value for FY 2024-25 has reached Rs 1.40 lakh crore.
This marks the first major procurement of towed guns from the private sector by the Indian Army, highlighting a boost to domestic defence manufacturing. The initiative aligns with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make-in-India campaigns, fostering self-reliance, economic growth, and job creation.
During the event, the Project Director of ATAGS from DRDO’s Armament Research and Development Establishment, Pune, was honored for his contribution. The 155mm/52 Calibre ATAGS will replace older artillery systems, enhancing the Army’s combat readiness with superior lethality, precision, and long-range strike capabilities, significantly strengthening India’s firepower.
