Raisen: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav on Monday released five rare vultures into their natural habitat at the Halali Dam area in Raisen district, marking a significant step in wildlife and ecosystem conservation. The release included four Indian vultures (Gyps indicus) and one Cinereous vulture (Aegypius monachus).
Strengthening Ecosystem and Wildlife Protection
CM Yadav highlighted the importance of vultures as the “natural cleaners” of the environment, essential for maintaining ecological balance. He said the initiative reinforces Madhya Pradesh’s commitment to protecting endangered species, adding to the state’s already strong record in tiger, leopard, and cheetah conservation.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the state is now emerging as a leading hub for vulture conservation, alongside its efforts in big cat protection.

Modern Technology Ensures Continuous Monitoring
To ensure the safety and health of the released vultures, each bird was equipped with high-tech GPS-GSM satellite transmitters after careful training at a breeding center in Bhopal.
- Experts from Wildlife SOS supervised the tagging process.
- The technology allows scientists to monitor migration, feeding patterns, and overall health in real time.
- WWF-India and the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS) are collaborating on a special satellite telemetry program to track vultures’ preferred feeding zones and identify threats such as electrocution or poisoning.
Vultures: Key to Environmental Health
CM Yadav noted that vultures play a crucial role in preventing the spread of diseases by consuming carrion. Recent surveys indicate that over 1,000 vultures have been sighted in South Panna, reflecting a positive trend in their population in Madhya Pradesh.
The Chief Minister appreciated the efforts of the Forest Department and conservation partners and stressed that Madhya Pradesh remains committed to protecting every species vital to the balance of nature.
