Ujjain: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav announced that Vikram University in Ujjain will soon be renamed as Samrat Vikramaditya University, as part of a broader initiative to revive the ancient city’s cultural and historical identity. The announcement was made during a grand development program held at Kshipra Vihar Commercial Complex on Dewas Road, where the Chief Minister laid foundation stones and inaugurated projects worth over ₹360 crore under the UDA, Higher Education Department, and Maharishi Panini Sanskrit University.
Honoring Ujjain’s Glorious Past
CM Yadav highlighted Ujjain’s significance as a historic and spiritual center, stating,
“Ujjain is an ancient city with a glorious past. We are continuously working to restore its old glory and global identity.”
The renaming of Vikram University is intended to honor Emperor Vikramaditya, one of the most revered figures in Ujjain’s cultural history.

Massive Investment in Infrastructure and Education
The Chief Minister announced that several development projects have been launched or initiated, including:
Inauguration of a 7-storey Multipurpose Commercial Complex (Pratikalpa) at Nanakheda, constructed by Ujjain Development Authority (UDA).
Launch and Bhoomi Pujan of development works under the Higher Education Department, including appointment letters issued to new assistant professors.
Plans to establish industries in Ujjain by leading Indian industrialists to boost employment and economic activity.
Ujjain to Be Developed as a Metro-Politan Hub
Dr. Yadav revealed a bold urban vision for Ujjain and neighboring cities:
- Indore, Ujjain, Dhar, Dewas, and Shajapur will be developed as part of a metro-politan cluster.
- A metro line will be constructed between Indore and Ujjain to improve regional connectivity.
- A new bridge will be built parallel to the existing Freegunj bridge to ease traffic congestion.
- New routes will be developed to enhance intra-city access and infrastructure.
Boosting Heritage and Tourism
CM Yadav emphasized the beautification of prominent temples and religious sites:
Temples including Mangalnath, Bhukhimata, Gadhkalika, and Harsiddhi Mata will be given a grander architectural makeover.
The aim is to reinforce Ujjain’s image as a center of spirituality, astronomy, chronology, and science, true to its historical roots.
Job Creation and Simplified Recruitment
Dr. Yadav also shared major updates on employment:
Over 1 lakh government vacancies will be filled soon.
A single-exam recruitment process will be introduced to streamline hiring for multiple departments.
Cultural Celebration and Honors
The event featured cultural presentations, including a soulful rendition of Shiv Stuti and Shivashtak by renowned singer Ms. Abhilipsa Pandey. A short film showcasing ongoing development in Ujjain was also screened.
In a symbolic gesture, the Chief Minister honored saints on stage with shawls and coconuts, reinforcing the city’s religious and spiritual heritage.
