Burhanpur: The Madhya Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, has given administrative approval for two major irrigation projects in Burhanpur district, with a combined investment of approximately ₹2,599 crore. These projects are expected to provide irrigation facilities to 132 villages, benefiting tens of thousands of farmers in the region.
Jhirmiti Medium Irrigation Project: ₹922.91 Crore, 42 Villages Benefited
Cabinet Minister Chetanya Kashyap informed that the state cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, approved the Jhirmiti Medium Irrigation Project in Khaknar tehsil. The project, with an estimated cost of ₹922.91 crore, will provide irrigation to 17,700 hectares of farmland across 42 villages. Approximately 11,800 farming families are expected to directly benefit from the project, boosting agricultural productivity and income in the region.

Navatha Major Irrigation Project: ₹1,676.06 Crore, 90 Villages Benefited
In addition, the cabinet approved the Navatha Major Irrigation Project in Nepanagar tehsil. This project, costing ₹1,676.06 crore, will cover 34,100 hectares of farmland in 90 villages, benefiting around 22,600 farmer families. Together, the two projects are set to significantly strengthen irrigation infrastructure and support sustainable agriculture in Burhanpur district.
Major Rural Road Development Initiatives
Minister Chetanya Kashyap also highlighted approvals for key road development projects under the Madhya Pradesh Rural Road Development Authority.
- PM Janjati Adivasi Nyay Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN) Plan (2026–28):
- Estimated expenditure: ₹795.45 crore
- Construction of 1,039 km of roads and 112 bridges
- Benefits 22 districts, focusing on the Baiga, Bharia, and Saharia tribal communities
- Estimated expenditure: ₹795.45 crore
- Prime Minister Rural Road Scheme (2026–31):
- Estimated expenditure: ₹17,196.21 crore
- Construction of 20,000 km of roads and 1,200 bridges
- Estimated expenditure: ₹17,196.21 crore
- Upgradation and Renovation of Existing Rural Roads (2026–31):
- Estimated expenditure: ₹10,196.42 crore
- Renovation and upgradation of 88,517 km of existing rural roads
- Estimated expenditure: ₹10,196.42 crore
These initiatives are aimed at enhancing connectivity, improving rural infrastructure, and facilitating economic development, particularly in tribal and remote areas of Madhya Pradesh.
