Jaipur: In a significant administrative development, retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Vijay Pratap Singh has been appointed as a member of the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission (RERC). The appointment was issued by the Energy Department following approval from the Governor of Rajasthan.

Five-Year Term or Until Age 65

According to the official order, VP Singh will serve as a member of RERC for a period of five years from the date he assumes charge, or until he attains the age of 65 years, whichever comes earlier. The appointment positions him to play a crucial role in the state’s energy regulatory framework, including overseeing electricity tariffs, licensing, and promoting efficient management in Rajasthan’s power sector.

Mr Singh’s appointment adds to an illustrious career spanning several decades in the Indian Administrative Service. He has held key leadership positions in multiple departments of the Rajasthan government:

Tourism & Public Relations: Served as Commissioner in the Tourism Department and the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), contributing to policy formulation and promotion of Rajasthan’s cultural heritage.

Corporate Leadership Roles: Held the post of Managing Director at Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) and the State Food and Civil Supplies Corporation, enhancing operational efficiency and service delivery.

Urban Governance: Served as Commissioner of Jaipur Municipal Corporation, overseeing civic administration and urban development initiatives.

Other Key Roles: Worked as Deputy Secretary to the Chief Minister and as Additional District Magistrate in Jaipur Second, managing key administrative responsibilities.

Significance of the Appointment

The appointment of VP Singh to RERC reflects the government’s reliance on experienced bureaucrats to strengthen regulatory oversight in critical sectors. As a member of RERC, Singh will be tasked with shaping policy decisions that impact power generation, distribution, and consumption across Rajasthan.
